Static Caravan Tax and the Government's plans to add VAT on Static Caravans

The government’s plan to remove Static Caravans from VAT exception was narrowly approved last week in the House of Commons. The government achieved a slim majority of 25 when the proposal was brought before the commons. However there appears to a cross party petition growing aimed at quashing the proposals

Following the announcement and vote there has been widespread commendation from within the caravan and wider tourism industry. Some commentators belief it will hit tourism and the appeal of static caravan ownership.

The government’s plans are to impose VAT on static caravans – currently 20% VAT. The tax is due to come into force October 2012 and a rush to sell static caravans is expected to ensue. The knock on effect is likely to effect static caravan values and appeal. Some commentators also expect to see up to 30% drop in new static caravan insurance sales.

Whilst static caravans seem likely to be taxed, holiday cottages and caravans occupied all year round are exempt.

The Caravan & Motorhome Show - 19-22 January 2012

One for the diary - The prestigious Manchester Caravan and Motorhome show will take between the 19th and 22nd January 2012.

The event is scheduled to include over 200 companies displaying the latest Caravan and Motorhome equipment.  The Caravan event will be held at the Manchester EventCity www.eventcity.co.uk

The event provides free parking, free entry for children and late night opening on Friday 20th January to 9:00pm
